Rules
1. The Objective & Scoring
Enclosure is a territory-control strategy game played on a 19×19 grid. Points are accumulated on every turn:
- Whenever your lines form a closed loop, the enclosed area becomes your territory.
- Cumulative Score: At the end of every turn, your currently held territory area is added to your total score.
- Holding territory early and defending it yields compound points over the course of the match.
2. Turns & Actions
- Blue starts the game with only 1 action (placing 1 line).
- Every subsequent turn, each player receives up to 2 actions (placing up to 2 lines).
- You may click End turn at any time if you do not wish to use your second action.
- Clock (online games): each player starts with 1 minute and gains 15 seconds after every turn. If your time runs out, your turn is passed.
3. Line Placement Rules
- Anchor: Every new line must originate from one of your existing nodes.
- Reach: The second endpoint must lie within a 3-unit Chebyshev box (maximum 3 grid steps horizontally and 3 steps vertically).
- No Overlaps: You cannot draw directly over your own lines or place an edge passing through one of your own existing nodes.
- No Edge Splitting: A node cannot be placed directly on your own existing edge.
4. Cutting Enemy Lines
You can disrupt enemy territories by slicing their lines:
- A single line placement can cut across at most 1 enemy line.
- The cut enemy line is destroyed immediately.
- Any enemy nodes that become completely disconnected from all lines vanish from the board.
5. Shielded / Invincible Lines
Lines placed during your turn are shielded. On the board, your opponent's shielded lines are highlighted in yellow and numbered in the order they were placed.
- They are invincible throughout your opponent's immediate next turn.
- Your opponent cannot cut or cross an invincible line.
- Invincibility wears off as soon as your opponent's turn ends, making those lines vulnerable to future cuts.
6. Winning the Game
The game tracks moves up to 120 lines. The player with the highest cumulative territory score when the limit is reached wins. Ending a turn early still uses up its remaining actions.
